Loved the first two chapters. Your descriptions contrasting core city living to the burbs is so telling.
Drove from Victoria, BC to San Francisco a few years ago across Northern Washington State and was amazed at the apparent low standard of living evident from the towns we witnessed passing, and stopped in. Clearly, economic booms have passed, if they ever arrived, and hand-to-mouth existence seemed prevalent. A foundation for unrest.
